An unrelated post:
Today, New Year's Day, my husband and I had to put our beloved KittyMuff to rest. After a month-long battle, she stopped eating again 3 days ago and continued losing weight and getting weaker. We brought her to the recommended emergency hospital where they ran tests to see what was up. She had diabetes - with ketones, which we were told is the worst type an animal can get. Her blood sugar levels were through the roof and the only other option would be to hospitalize her, give her constant insulin injections, take her back and forth to the vet for treatments, and have her monitored regularly. This would have cost thousands of dollars, as well as putting her and us through emotional turmoil. Then after all is said and done, it would not have cured her anyway. There were also other things wrong with her that may or may not have contributed but it didn't mater as this was the cause of her suffering.
Here is the miracle though - when Kennedy, our Black Labrador was dying 6 years ago, KittyMuff was with him the whole time. In fact, they were the best of friends, hanging out and sleeping together all the time. When she stayed by his side when sick, it was on our love seat. When he passed, she stayed around the love seat for several days. Afterward, she had not set foot on it until last night. She was very sick and weak through the night and when I went looking for her, there she was. She got up several times to drink but she would go back on that love seat to sleep. She knew Kennedy was waiting for her. She knew it was her time.
We did all we could for her. We said our goodbyes a month ago when we thought she was going to leave us. She stayed through Christmas. We said our goodbyes today and yes, we are very sad but we know she is in peace and at Kennedy's side forever. She was 13 years old.
